A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND SHOWING APPRECIATION TO THE BLACKWELL FAMILY FOR SPONSORING THE BICYCLE INCENTIVE FOR KIDS EDUCATION (BIKE) PROGRAM UPON THE OCCASION OF THE SELECTION OF STUDENT WINNERS AT FOREST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

WHEREAS, the Bicycle Incentive for Kids Education (BIKE) program has been underwritten by the Blackwell family of Blackwell Chevrolet since 1987; and

WHEREAS, the BIKE program rewards elementary students for passing all subjects and obeying the school district's code of conduct regarding school rules and regulations; and

WHEREAS, student winners are selected in an objective manner and receive bicycles during the months of December and May; and

WHEREAS, the Blackwell family continues to underwrite the BIKE program for the school districts of Canton, Clinton, Forest, Jackson, Pearl, Hinds, Madison, Rankin, Scott and Simpson, awarding 168 bicycles annually and impacting approximately 60,000 students; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Frances Blackwell, Dr. Dean Blackwell, Mrs. Beth Blackwell-Townsend and Mr. Bruce Blackwell are appreciated by the Legislature for their continuous contributions to the growth and development of many elementary students in the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and show our appreciation to the Blackwell family for sponsoring the Bicycle Incentive for Kids Education (BIKE) program upon the occasion of the selection of student winners at Forest Elementary School to be held on May 5, 1999, and for their dedicated support and service rendered to public education in Mississippi.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the Blackwell family and to Principal Raymond Clark of Forest Elementary School, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
